Influenced by Stott Pilates, Walking Pilates™ is a lowimpact aerobics class that will increase your heart rate without the high impact of jumping. Marching-type movements are repetitive and the choreography is simple, so the challenge is not in learning a routine but to keep moving. Incorporating Stott’s Five Basic Principles will lend a Pilates feel to the class. Wear supportive fitness shoes that don't have a flared heel, workout clothes that allow free movement, and a sweat band. Though all levels are welcome, this class is for beginning and intermediate participants. It is not recommended for pregnant women. Bring a water bottle and hand towel. Frequently, potential yoga participants don't think they are flexible enough to do yoga. Yoga is about flexibility of the mind and the body will follow. In this Hatha yoga class, Musyt will lead you through yoga postures held 30–60 seconds to relax into the stretch. Combined with slow, long, deep breathing, you’ll leave class relaxed yet energized. Wear comfortable, not baggy, clothing that allows free movement. Bring bottled water, a hand towel, sticky-mat, and six-foot yoga strap. Yoga blocks also are suggested and can be found at Target, K-Mart, and Wal-Mart. A sweatshirt or lightweight blanket for relaxation may also be needed as the body drops in temperature during the last phase of class. Not recommended for pregnant women.

Bed Bug Epidemic: How Should We Respond? 12:00 Noon - 1:00 P.M.
Date: Monday, August 24, 2009
Location: Younkin Success Center, 1640 Neil Avenue [ view location map ]
Room: 150
Details: Bed bugs have been around for a very long time, living in close association with us in our "nests" (homes). For a brief period following World War II until about 10 years ago, most developed countries enjoyed a hiatus from these blood-sucking insects while many regions accepted bed bugs as a part of living. Thanks to a resurgence in these pests, the old bedtime rhyme, “Sleep tight and don’t let the bed bugs bite,” will take on new meaning for subsequent generations. How concerned should you be about bed bugs? Are they a product of bad housekeeping? Do they transmit any disease? Learn how to recognize their bites, detect their presence in your surroundings, and protect your family.
