If you are unable to find a provider in your area, please contact OSU MHCS at (614) 292-4700 or (800) 678-6269. Use this online directory to search for in-network providers. It is our intention to make this directory as current as possible by updating it regularly. However it is a good idea to always check with the provider to confirm network participation. What is a PCP? What is a specialist? What is a Board Certified Provider? Specialists are doctors who have chosen to focus their practice in one area of medicine. Specialists have advanced education, clinical training, and certification in a specific field. A subspecialist is a doctor who is trained or certified as a specialist and then receives additional training in a specific area called a subspecialty. This training increases the doctor's depth of knowledge in that field of medicine. A doctor becomes board certified by completing training in a specialty area and passing an examination. To be board certified, the doctor must:
Specialty boards certify that doctors have met certain standards. Certification is voluntary; not all specialists are certified. There are 24 specialty boards currently recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties and the American Medical Association. - adapted from WebMD.com
Plan members should still go to the emergency room for life-threatening medical emergencies or when urgent care sites are not open and medical care is needed. Urgent care is not intended for preventive or routine maintenance treatment such as school physicals, nor will these services be covered by university medical plans when performed at urgent care sites. The copayment for services at an urgent care site is $35 per visit for members of in-network medical plans (Prime Care Advantage, Prime Advantage Value and in-network providers of the Prime Advantage Plus). Members of out-of-network plans (Prime Advantage Plus out-of-network option, Independent Choice and Out-of-Area plans) will pay applicable deductibles and coinsurance.
